OUR IMPACT

Since 2014 Trash For Food has been the shelter for hundreds of people that roam the streets in search of sustenance due to abandonment and poverty in the south of Monterrey City. We have involved this vulnerable population in the recycling culture by offering them food and access to a food pantry in exchange of inorganic waste that they collect from the streets.

This altruist work benefits people from the most impoverished neighborhoods: Independence, Tanques de Guadalupe, Arturo B. de la Garza, Nuevo Repueblo,  Alfonso Reyes, América II, Ancira and City Center, delivering more than 4 thousand servings of food per year, on thursday and friday each week.

We also provide medical and ophtalmologic support to more than 40 seniors during the year.

Who Are We?

local initiative in the face of a great challenge

Monterrey is one of the three most important cities in Mexico, recognized as the industrial hub of the country, distinguished by the constant creation of work oportunities, the quality of its educational offer and economic mobility for its ihabitants.

This favors a constant immigration of people arriving from other cities in search of better living conditions, a situation that accelerates population growth, with all that this implies.

As in any other big city, Monterrey is characterized by strong contrasts, along with economic growth, foreign investment and development, the marginalization of thousands of people who do not reach opportunities to live better.

This is where pollution and poverty appear as major social problems and a difficult and challenging reality.

Faced with this challenge, the association of local origin Trash For Food works an innovative strategy through actions that allow the active participation of society to collect and classify waste that is then exchanged for pantry in a swap shop or for food in a dining room that receives people in vulnerable situations, mainly older adults.

Trash For Food's actions are carried out from the Independencia neighborhood, the oldest in the city of Monterrey, a popular sector where people who suffer from poverty live, from there the double effort is born to confront the pollution that damages the health of its inhabitants and at the same time mitigate hunger in the most vulnerable inhabitants.

What We Do

Exchange Food Pantry

Ecological Culture and Social Commitment

The exchange store receives inorganic garbage such as scrap metal, cardboard, PET, copper and aluminum, which is subsequently sold to recycling companies to obtain only a portion of the income needed annually to support the Rosa Blanca Dining Room, where we offer more than 4 thousand portions of food year.

With these actions we promote the ecological care in the population, while contributing to the family economy and supporting people suffering from hunger and malnutrition.

Human Solidarity

Committed to an ecological culture we find in the inorganic waste the raw material to start a process that finally allows us to obtain nutritious foods that we offer with love.

In this way we seek to achieve greater support for people in vulnerable situations in order to improve their social reality.

Energy Project

Environmentalist Vision

With its environmentalist spirit Trash For Food participates in an ambitious energy research project whose purposes can be used for the care of the environment.

The objective is to revolutionize the treatment of garbage, through its transformation, since it is currently burned or buried, causing serious damage to the air, water and soil.
